How do you register a death?
- The Death must be registered with the department of “Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages” in the district where the death occurred (or where the body was found). Registration should take place as soon as possible, at least within five days of the death. If the death has been referred to the Coroner, the procedure is slightly different, and we will advise you accordingly.
-
Telephone 0345 155 1002 to make an appointment to register.
- The Medical Certificate of Cause of Death, which is issued by the Doctor who attended the Deceased during his or her last illness, will be emailed to the Registrars with the contact details for the next of kin or Informant. The Registrar on duty will telephone the next of kin or informant to complete registration over the telephone.
